JOB DESCRIPTION
Data Engineer
At FlexPower, the quantitative trading team builds and operates fully automated strategies in European short-term power markets.
We own our PnL and our systems end-to-end — from data collection to execution.
To strengthen the foundations that power our research and trading systems, we’re looking for a Data Engineer who takes pride in reliability, structure, and technical precision.
No external clients. No politics. Just data, systems, and direct impact on trading results.
You enjoy
- Designing clean, efficient, and reliable data pipelines.
- Translating market and business understanding into well-structured data solutions.
- Working closely with quantitative researchers and software engineers to make data useful, for both training and live trading.
- Ensuring that data quality, availability, and consistency are never afterthoughts.
- Collaborating in a focused, respectful team that values care, precision, and accountability.
You can support the team with
- Building and maintaining high-quality data pipelines in Python and SQL.
- Managing data storage and access in BigQuery and AWS (S3, Lambda, ECS, Fargate).
- Implementing robust ETL processes and schema management for historical and live market data.
- Developing and maintaining a feature store for model training.
- Ensuring reliable, low-latency data delivery for inference in production systems.
- Automating workflows using Airflow.
- Deploying and monitoring data systems using Docker, Git, CI/CD, and Grafana.
- Designing systems that are transparent, well-documented, and resilient under change.
You bring:
- A strong engineering mindset — reliability, clarity, and ownership.
- Professional experience with Python and SQL (BigQuery experience is a plus).
- Understanding of cloud-based data architectures (AWS preferred).
- Experience with ETL workflows and data orchestration using Airflow.
- A structured, dependable, and cooperative working style.
- Excellent communication skills in English (German is a plus).
Bonus if you bring:
- Experience with power market data such as prices, trades, weather, or forecasts.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi) or cloud architecture best practices.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting setups (Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch).
- Familiarity with data pipeline testing, schema validation, or MLOps principles.
What we offer:
- Direct impact on the data backbone of one of Europe’s leading algorithmic power trading desks.
- A fast-moving, highly technical environment with close collaboration across disciplines.
- A culture that rewards precision, teamwork, and thoughtful execution.
- Competitive compensation and performance-based bonus.
- Modern office in central Hamburg and a focused, high-trust team.
