JOB DESCRIPTION

Market Specialist

At FlexPower, the quantitative trading team builds and operates fully automated strategies in European short-term power markets. We own our PnL and our systems end-to-end - from data collection to execution.

To deepen our understanding of market behavior, we’re looking for a Market Specialist who combines market intuition with analytical rigor - and wants to see their insights directly influence live trading.

No external dependencies. No bureaucracy. Just high-impact work with direct feedback from the market.

You enjoy to:

  • Understanding what moves short-term power prices and spreads.
  • Turning complex market data into clear, testable hypotheses.
  • Working with quantitative researchers and engineers on model-driven strategies.
  • Spotting anomalies, regime changes, and emerging structural patterns.
  • Taking responsibility for your conclusions and their real-world outcomes.
  • Contributing to a focused, respectful, and performance-oriented team culture.

You will:

  • Analyze market behavior and identify key drivers of price and imbalance dynamics.
  • Interpret and contextualize model performance across different market conditions.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and monitoring tools for market signals and KPIs.
  • Provide structured, domain-grounded input for feature engineering and strategy refinement.
  • Help improve and stress-test automated trading logic under changing market regimes.
  • Execute small, structured test trades to develop intuition for market microstructure, liquidity patterns, and exchange behavior — purely for learning and strategy calibration.
  • Participate in the team’s rotation to monitor live model-based trading and address operational issues when they arise.

You bring:

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of European short-term power markets, ideally within Central Western Europe (e.g., DE, NL, FR, AT).
  • Ability to work with Python and SQL for data analysis.
  • Curiosity about automated trading and market microstructure.
  • A structured, thoughtful, and reliable working style.
  • Strong communication skills in English (German is a plus).

Bonus:

  • Experience in short-term power or balancing markets.
  • Familiarity with EPEX systems, market APIs, or balancing platforms.
  • Experience building dashboards for real-time or intraday monitoring.

What we offer

  • Direct impact on the PnL of one of Europe’s leading algorithmic power trading desks.
  • A fast-moving, technically rigorous environment.
  • A culture that values precision, clarity, and teamwork.
  • Competitive compensation and performance-based bonus.
  • Modern office in central Hamburg and a high-trust team.
