PowerMatch

PPA Sizer

Design your own renewable energy PPA – fast, simple, transparent. All it takes is your yearly power consumption and your business sector. We’ll match your input with a predefined load profile and instantly optimize the best combination of wind and solar to minimize your costs. Prefer to stay in control? Fine-tune the volumes manually with interactive sliders and see prices update in real time. Don't forget to request a quote based on your input at the end!

How to Use the PPA Sizer

Getting Started

Step 1: Tell Us About Your Business

Start by selecting your demand profile from the dropdown menu. We offer profiles for different sectors including general trade/business, offices, restaurants, farms, households, and more. Each profile reflects typical energy usage patterns throughout the day. For example, offices peak during business hours while restaurants are busiest in the evenings.

Step 2: Enter Your Yearly Power Consumption

Input your Yearly Power Consumption in MWh. This figure forms the foundation for all calculations and helps us size your optimal energy mix.

Designing Your Hedge level & Power mix

Choose Your Hedge Level

Use the Hedge slider to decide what percentage of your annual demand you want to cover with PPAs (Solar, Wind, and Baseload). The remaining portion will be purchased from the spot market. A higher hedge percentage provides more price certainty but less flexibility and use of spot market prices.

Configure Your PPAs

Solar PPA

Adjust the slider to set how much of your hedged demand should come from solar PPAs. We'll automatically calculate the required solar capacity in MW based on the annual demand and typical full load hours (1000h for solar). Keep in mind: Solar generation peaks during midday hours.

Wind PPA

Set your desired wind PPA share. The tool calculates the required wind capacity (MW) based on the annual demand and typical full load hours (assumed to be 2200). Keep in mind: Wind generation is more consistent throughout the day but varies by season and weather conditions.

Baseload

Add a baseload component for constant power supply that runs 24/7. We calculate the required baseload capacity (MW) based on the annual demand and full load hours (assumed to be 8760).

Note: The combined percentages of Solar, Wind, and Baseload cannot exceed your chosen Hedge percentage. Importantly, we do not optimize for Baseload PPAs. The shifting energy market fundamentals, driven by the growing integration of fluctuating renewables, have reshaped the energy landscape. We believe the era of baseload is over and weather-indexed PPAs represent the new standard in power supply, see our blog article to learn more.

Optimization Features

Auto-Optimize

Click the Optimize button to let our algorithm find the best combination of solar and wind PPAs for your specific demand and hedge profile. This minimizes the amount of power you need to buy or sell on the spot market, potentially reducing your overall costs.

Prefer to stay in control? You can always use the sliders to manually adjust your hedge profile and PPAs. We encourage your to play around with the tool to watch how changes affect your costs and supply coverage in real time.

Understanding your results

Interactive Chart

The main visualization shows the interplay between demand, supply, and market prices for the selected scenario throughout an average day:

  • White line: Your hourly power demand.
  • Colored areas: Supply covered from different PPAs (yellow for solar PPA, cyan for wind PPA, pink for baseload PPA)
  • Violet line: Sum of Solar, Wind, and Baseload supply (Total Production)
  • Blue hatched areas (Oversupply): Times when supply exceeds demand (sold at the spot market)
  • Red hatched areas (Undersupply): Times demand exceeds supply (bought from the spot market)
  • Green stepped line: Hourly Day-Ahead market prices (toggle on/off as needed)

Note: Hover over any point on the chart to see detailed values for that specific hour.

Results Summary

The table below the chart breaks down your key metrics for the selected scenario with annual and daily averages for each energy source, current PPA prices, weighted average price for your entire supply, and oversupply/undersupply amounts. While the total price gives you a good indication of your expected 2026 delivery costs per MWh, it's important to note that this is a preliminary estimate based on daily averages rather than your actual load profile, so changes may apply.
